Intinerary

Friday :

Leaving Darwin, we head south to the Litchfield National Park for a day of wet and wild adventures. We discover the field of magnetic termite mounds which resemble tombstones and stand up to 3 metres tall! Relax or splash around in Bluey Rockhole, with it series of rapids, small pools and waterfalls there is much fun to be had in this location. But it’s not over just yet! We take a dip in the huge plunge pool of Wangi Falls, surrounded by lush monsoonal rainforest. There is also the Tolmer Falls walk, which offers views of four amazing, yet contrasting landscapes. On the way to our campsite at Hayes Creek, we stop at Adelaide River - home of Australia’s largest war cemetery.   (Lunch, Dinner)

Saturday :

Devils Marbles / Karlu karluAfter breakfast we hit the road to Katherine National Park (Nitmiluk). Here you have the option of canoeing (at your own expense) through Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) or exploring the park’s beauty by foot on one of the many scenic walking trails.
The end of the day is spent at Mataranka, made famous in the book “We of the Never Never”; you can swim in the thermal springs which maintain a constant temperature of 34 degrees Celsius. Check out aquatic wildlife from the banks of the Roper River and after dinner there is a guided night tour of the local wildlife.  (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Sunday :

Thermal Springs - MatarankaOnce on the road we head towards the site of Australia’s first International Air Field at Daly Waters for a lunch stop. Then off again to Newcastle Waters to view the Drovers Monument.
We pass through Tennant Creek, the last Gold Rush town in Australia. Three ways Road Junction, with an afternoon break at Renner Springs Roadhouse. Watch the sunset over the Devils Marbles (Karlu Karlu), before we set up camp for the night at Wauchope.  (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Monday :

See the sunrise at the Devils Marbles before a passing through Wycliffe Well, look up - it’s the UFO capital of Australia! Ti Tree is an opportunity to visit the Red Sands Gallery for unique indigenous gifts and souvenirs. We travel through the vast outback to Native Gap for some photos opportunities and an insight into local indigenous history and culture. View the Tropic of Capricorn Monument before arriving in Alice Springs at around 1pm.  (Breakfast)

What to bring:

Hat, sunscreen, walking shoes, insect repellent, water bottle, bathers, sleeping bag (or hire one for $15.) Otherwise all the usual stuff, and most important a sense of adventure.
