Enjoy sleeping under the stars in a swag (Aussie bedroll) as we head South from Darwin in the Top End to the Red Centre. Along the way you'll be exposed to plenty of Aboriginal culture as well as the Devil's Marbles(Karlu Karlu), Jim Jim Falls in Kakadu National Park , Katherine Gorge and Litchfield National Park. Jump on the back of a camel for a quick outback ride before stretching your legs with a hike through Kings Canyon and in the Uluru Kata Tjuta National Park. Watch the sunrise over Uluru before the tour concludes in Alice Springs.

Leaving Darwin, we journey south to the beautiful Litchfield National Park where we visit waterfalls that flow all year round. Litchfield National Park is well deserving of all its hype and the perfect place to soak up the tranquility of the tropics. We explore Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and Buley Rockholes. Enjoy a picnic lunch, stroll through steamy rainforests and cool off with a dip in one of Litchfield's picture perfect swimming holes. We finish the day in the spectacular Mary River Wetlands where the exotic birds are not the only wildlife to see. Keep a watch for lurking crocodiles on an afternoon wildlife cruise. Enjoy an outback Aussie pub meal before climbing into your bed for a well-earned rest at our Mary River region camping spot.

Today we head to Kakadu National Park where we discover ancient Aboriginal rock art at Ubirr. Here you guide will lead an interpretive cultural walk through the different rock art galleries before we climb to the top of a rocky lookout for fabulous views over the Nardab floodplain. Next we head to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge) where a hike is rewarded with a reviving swim in the in the beautiful clear plunge pools. Tonight we relax poolside and enjoy a group dinner at the Bistro at our Jabiru campground.

This morning you have the option of a scenic flight over Kakadu (price from $150 pp) the sheer size of Kakadu means the only way to truly appreciate it is from the sky. The flight takes in views over the stunning Arnhem Land escarpment, vast flood plains and billabongs and gives you a true sense of the amazing diversity of the Kakadu ecosystems. We then spend time exploring Kakadu's other major Aboriginal rock art site Nourlangie or Burrungi as it is known to its local traditional owners. Here your guide will give you a snapshot of how the local Aboriginal people have lived in an area with 20 000 years of documented occupation which is reflected in some of the rock art. After lunch we head south stopping to visit the historic gold-mining centre of Pine Creek before travelling further on for a quick stop and swim at Edith Falls before continuing on to Katherine and settling in for the night at our private campsite on the doorstep of Nitmuluk National Park. Fall asleep listening to the chatter of the outback night.

Depending on the season, this morning we'll embark on a cruise along the inky waters of Katherine Gorge or take the chance to head out by canoe between red rock walls up to 70 m high (both activities are optional at own expense). Formed by the Katherine River flowing from Arnhem Land to the Timor Sea, this 23 million-year-old natural marvel is one of the Top End's true wonders. After lunch we experience a truly authentic indigenous cultural experience. This interpretive display will not only teach you about local indigenous culture but will also provide hands on experiences including fire making, boomerang and spear throwing and the chance to try painting your own indigenous artwork to take home as a unique souvenir. We then hit the open road and head back to Darwin to enjoy a night on the town toasting your adventure with new friends.

Today, skip the 1,500km of driving which is about 24 hours by road, and fly from Darwin to Alice Springs with Qantas airlines. Qantas was Australia's first commercial airline, and stands for "Queensland and Northern Territory Ariel Services" and is now one of the worlds best International airlines.We'll arrange your air tickets and issue them a couple of weeks prior to your departure. When you are in Darwin on night 4 of your trip, please call the transfer company in Darwin and Alice Springs and confirm your flight time and they'll advise what time you'll be picked up from your Darwin hotel, and that somebody will be waiting to meet you in Alice Springs. Tonight, you'll be staying at the Alice Motor Inn.

From busy Alice Springs, set off to experience the wonder of ancient Uluru. Our first stop is an authentic outback camel farm and there is the option to go for a short ride on one of these desert animals (at own expense). Continue on to the permanent campsite at Yulara and enjoy a tasty lunch before exploring the 36 domes of Kata Tjuta. Finally, as the sun begins to disappear below the horizon, grab a glass of sparkling wine and watch the rock's rich colours change against the backdrop of a blazing Red Centre sunset. The perfect end to a remarkable day is awaiting you back at camp - our famous 1,000 star dinner. With the red earth at your feet and an infinite sprawl of stars overhead, sit down to a candlelit spread of locally sourced food and wines, and soak up the vastness of outback skies during a hosted dinner you'll never forget.

An early start is rewarded with a beautiful Uluru sunrise. While the morning's fresh enjoy an unguided walk around the base of Uluru. You will then deepen your understanding of the land and the Mala people on a cultural interpretive walk with an Aboriginal guide (and interpreter)^ It is a unique opportunity to share experiences and to connect with and learn about the oldest culture on earth. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to purchase Aboriginal arts and crafts at the Cultural Centre before we travel to our exclusive campsite within the Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon) where we sleep for the night.

There's a lot to explore at Kings Canyon as we check out the Amphitheatre, Lost City, the lush and ancient Garden of Eden and the sheer outcrops of the North and South walls. After lunch, we head back to Alice Springs where we settle in for the evening at our hotel. You may like to enjoy dinner in Alice Springs with your group tonight (own expense). Accommodation tonight is at Alice Lodge Backpackers for those booked on the Basix Level, or the Alice Motor Inn in Alice Springs for those who have booked Original.

The Red Centre's best kept secret, the Western MacDonnell Ranges will leave you awed at unsuspecting beauty that this part of the country holds. Leave Alice Springs this morning and journey through Ormiston Gorge, witnessing contrasting colours as the light reflects off the cliffs. Keep your eyes peeled for wallabies and other wildlife. Move on to Ellery Creek to enjoy panoramic views of the area, perhaps taking a dip in its still waters. After lunch, visit the world famous Simpsons Gap, an important site to the local Aboriginal communities. Head to the Western MacDonnell Ranges and watch the colour of the peaks transform under the setting sun. To finish off your outback experience, what better cherry on top than enjoying the breathtaking colours of the Western Macdonnell Ranges transform under the setting sun on an optional hour-long sunset camel ride (own expense).

This trip is Original level. Original accommodation consists of permanent twin share tents with furnishings, and twin share motel rooms. Camping consists of twin share permanent tents equipped with proper beds, linen, pillows and towels. Food for the trip is purchased prior to commencement and special requirements cannot be catered for after departing.   • Sunset camel ride on day 9 is at own expense, $60 for adults and $20 for children 14 and under. Your Leader will explain the optional activity in the morning and book for those who wish to participate. This activity can also be pre-booked through our Reservations team. Those passengers doing the sunset camel ride will be dropped back to Alice Springs accommodation by staff at Pyndan Camel Tracks shortly after the sunset ride concludes.• Children aged 8-12 are eligible for a 10% off child rate.   • This trip is made of two separate tours, so you may be traveling with a different guide and passengers on each leg.
  • Travel Insurance is compulsory for all travellers on all tours and details must be presented to your tour guide before departure.
  • A STRICT luggage limit of 10kg in a soft bag applies. Excess should remain in storage at your Darwin accommodation.
  • It is likely that you will experience temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius. Be prepared to endure extra physical stress due to the heat at these times, especially while on walks. These extreme temperatures can also place stress on the air-conditioning units within our vehicles which can make travelling uncomfortable. Your tour guide will assist with regular breaks and information to assist keeping hydrated. Please come prepared for all extremes.
