Itinerary
Day 1 - Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
After meeting your ATA guide and fellow travellers we drive south of Adelaide through the scenic hills of the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis. Here we board the Sealink ferry to cross Backstairs Passage to Kangaroo Island - a 45 minute journey to Penneshaw.
Once on shore, we stretch our legs while searching for Tammar Wallabies and the Glossy Black Cockatoo before heading to one of the Island’s most stunning surf beaches at Pennington Bay. Our next stop and the highlight for most is the opportunity to walk amongst Australian Sea Lions, in their natural habitat on a guided interpretive walk at Seal Bay.
We then play and explore on the magnificent white sand dunes at Little Sahara, visit Vivonne Bay and search for koalas at the Hanson Bay Koala Sanctuary. We arrive at our farm-stay late afternoon and after dinner search for kangaroos, wallabies and possums on a guided nocturnal walk. (LD)
Day 2 - Kangaroo Island to Adelaide
Our morning is spent in the Flinders Chase National Park starting with an interpretive walk (4km return) at Snake Lagoon. We wind our way through the Rocky River Valley to the Southern Ocean, learning about the native flora and fauna of this unique eco-system.
We then make our way to Remarkable Rocks for a leisurely stroll amongst the huge weather-sculptured granite outcrops, visit Admirals Arch at Cape du Couedic to watch the resident colony of New Zealand fur seals frolic in the ocean or bask in the sun and then break for lunch at Rocky River Headquarters, with time to check out the Information Centre.
Following lunch, we travel through the central farming region to Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery - the only commercial distillery in operation in SA followed by a tasting of locally produced wines! We return to Penneshaw for our journey back to Adelaide. (BL)
