Itinerary

Day 1: Broome - Windjana Gorge

4wd drivingDepart Broome at 07:00 am and head to the Derby Prison for a short visit. We now leave the bitumen behind us as we enter the Gibb River Road, almost instantly we can feel the remoteness. A walk up Windjana Gorge this afternoon is sure to impress. Camping overnight Windjana National Park.

Day 2: Windjana Gorge - Bells Gorge

This morning we’re off to Tunnel Creek, have your bathers and torches ready.  This amazing tunnel cuts through the Napier Range and is rich in history, ask your guide.  Afternoon sees us off to Bells Gorge. Camping overnight Bells Gorge.

Day 3: Bells Gorge – Manning Gorge

Leaving Bell Gorge this morning, we travel through the beautiful scenery of the Kimberley’s highest mountain range, King Leopold Ranges, on our way to Galvans Gorge. This gorge will tempt you to don the bathers. For those feeling like a walk, a visit to Manning Gorge this afternoon is recommended.

Day 4: Manning Gorge - King Edward River

Quad biking on beachToday we leave Gibb River Road, and travel Kalumburu Road to Mitchell Plateau, visiting Drysdale River Station. Our camp will be on the banks of the river, an afternoon dip here, and a chance to explore the area before dinner is a must.  Camping overnight King Edward River.

Day 5: Mitchell Plateau and Falls

Today we leave for the Mitchell Plateau with its masses of Mitchell Plateau palms before tackling the slow rough track leading to the Mitchell Falls. We explore Mitchell and Merten Falls on foot and discover amazing Aboriginal rock art and some beautiful scenery. Late afternoon we return to our bush camp for a night out under the stars. Wildlife such as dingos, kangaroos and birds are plentiful. (We recommend walking into the Mitchell Falls then taking advantage of a scenic helicopter flight). Camping overnight King Edward River.

Day 6: King Edward River – Home Valley Station

This morning we visit Aboriginal paintings in the area before we depart from our river camp and the Mitchell Plateau and travel back towards Drysdale Station to rejoin the Kimberley Gibb River Road. Tonight we camp at Home Valley Station.

Day 7: Home Valley

Boat CruiseOur Kimberley Gibb River Road journey today takes us through the majestic Cockburn Ranges. Have your cameras ready for the spectacular scenery and panoramic views of the Cockburn Ranges, Cambridge Gulf and the twin rivers of the Durack and Pentecost. A walk to stunning Emma Gorge on El Questro Station, with a rewarding swim in the crystal clear waters is a must!. Camping overnight El Questro.

Day 8: Home Valley - Kununurra

An exciting and relaxing day today. The morning sees us soaking in the thermal pools of Zebedee Springs, we then spend a free afternoon with the option available to spend a fun afternoon exploring Chamberlain Gorge in a dingy (small boats) to view the wildlife and Aboriginal art of the area. Camping overnight El Questro Station.

Day 9: Kununurra

This morning we leave El Questro on our journey to Wyndham and marvel at the view from Five Rivers Lookout. After lunch we travel on to Kununurra with a short stop to view the bird life of Parry Lagoon and set up camp on the edge of Lake Kununurra. Camping overnight Kununurra.

Day 10: Kununurra - Bungle Bungles

A free day to enjoy the many attractions of Kununurra. Some suggestions for your free day - visit the plantations in the area, take a boat cruise along the Ord River, or on Lake Argyle, book a fishing trip on the lower Ord River, or take a flight to Argyle Diamond Mine. These are only some of the optional tours available to you. Camping overnight Kununurra.

Day 11: Bungle Bungles

Imitji StoreAn early start this morning. We head south for an interesting scenic drive through the mountain ranges to Turkey Creek before tackling the slow 60 kilometre drive into the Aboriginal Bungle Bungles. Here we'll see unbelievable beehive formations and plunging gorges. A visit this afternoon to Echidna Chasm with its sheer rock face. We set up camp at one of the campsites in the Purnululu National Park and relax whilst enjoying the sunset on the Aboriginal Bungle Bungle Massif. Camping overnight Bungle Bungle National Park.

Day 12: Bungle Bungles - Fitzroy Crossing

First thing on today's itinerary should be an unforgettable helicopter flight over the Aboriginal Bungle Bungles. Whilst this is an optional extra, it is highly recommended. We will then drive to the other side of the Bungle Bungles for an easy walk through spectacular gorges and the bee hives, including Cathedral Gorge. Camping overnight Bungle Bungle National Park

Day 13: Fitzroy Crossing - Broome

An early start back to the main road and on to the once thriving gold town of Halls Creek. Then on to our overnight stop at Fitzroy Crossing. Camping overnight Fitzroy Lodge.

Day 14: Fitzroy Crossing – Broome

Pack up camp for the last time and travel to Geike Gorge for a morning visit. You will have an opportunity here for a boat cruise on the Fitzroy River and Geike Gorge. We then make our way to Cable Beach Broome, where your Kimberley experience officially ends.

Further Information

Camping Tours

Camping tours utilise high quality camping equipment, two persons tents, self inflating mattresses and custom built kitchen trailers. These tours are designed for camping in comfort. Where possible the tours always stopover at permanent campsites with serviced WC’s and shower facilities.

Vehicles

Travel utilises custom built 4 x 4 and safari vehicles ensuring the highest degree of comfort and safety, on or off road. All vehicles have forward facing seats, air conditioning, stero P/A system, satellite phones.

Tour Notes

Single supplement (either tent or room, by yourself).
Special dietary needs catered for on request.
Baggage should be kept to a minimum, a soft backpack or case (20 kg weight limit) and day / utility bag is permitted.
On camping tours, 2 man tents and mattresses are provided, kitchen trailer and all camping equipment are included in the tour.
Sleeping bags should be taken or can be hired for a small fee.
Camp stretches available for hire on request.
Vehicle capacity 13,17,20 and 23 passengers.
An average level of fitness is required.
